Quick Start
This guide gets Lingent ready for a first local evaluation.
1. Build or install Lingent
Lingent is currently documented for preview users while distribution is being finalized. If you are working from source, build the extension and load the generated dist/ directory from the browser extensions page.
After loading the extension, open the Lingent side panel from the toolbar popup. The onboarding flow will ask you to choose a model provider and the platforms you want Lingent to use.
2. Connect a model provider
Open Settings and add the provider you control.
Supported provider families include:
- OpenAI-compatible providers.
- Anthropic.
- Gemini.
- DeepSeek.
- Qwen.
- Moonshot.
- Zhipu.
- Doubao.
- Ollama on localhost.
- A local gateway such as Manifold.
If you use Manifold, configure Lingent's OpenAI-compatible provider to point at the local Manifold base URL and use a Manifold gateway key or local session key. Lingent should never need a shared upstream token pool.
3. Enable the right surfaces
Start with the smallest useful set:
- Browser tools for the active tab.
- GitHub or Jira if your first task uses those platforms.
- Writing Pad if you want page-aware drafting.
- Activity recording so each run has a reviewable trail.
Platform credentials are configured in Settings. Avoid pasting secrets into chat messages, issue reports, or screenshots.
4. Run a first task
Open a normal web page and ask:
Summarize this page and list the actions I should take next.
For a browser action, try a low-risk page first:
Read the table on this page and tell me which rows need follow-up.
Lingent will pick tools, stream progress, and record the result in Activity. When a task needs a sensitive browser action or persistent change, review the approval prompt before allowing it to proceed.
5. Use Writing Pad
Open Writing Pad from the popup, side panel, or right-click menu. It can create drafts, read page context, translate between languages, polish selected text, and produce page-aware replies. The default actions are editable in Settings.
